Please note that athletes with a turnover of more than CHF 100’000 will be subject to VAT in Switzerland. After a revision of the Federal Act on Value Added Tax, which came into effect on 1 January 2018, the tax is now based on worldwide turnover instead of what athletes earn by participating in a sporting event in Switzerland. Athletes with worldwide turnovers of at least CHF 100’000 will have to register with the Swiss Federal Tax Administration in order to pay the tax. For more information, please refer to the following link.
Swiss Social Insurance: With regard to the athletes whose compensation exceeds CHF 2,500, (US$ 3200) it is the athlete’s responsibility to be enrolled with a social insurance institution in their respective country of origin and to report the amounts received from Athletissima to that institution. If the athlete fails to fulfill these obligations, please be advised that the Swiss social insurance authorities may enroll them automatically. In this case, the organizer will be entitled to recover from the athlete and/or his or her representative any amount it may have paid on the athlete’s behalf for his or her Swiss enrollment.
