After a revision of the Federal Act on Value Added Tax, which came into effect on 1 January 2018, the tax is now based on worldwide turnover instead of what athletes earn by participating in a sporting event in Switzerland. Athletes with worldwide turnovers of at least CHF 100&#8217;000 will have to register with the Swiss Federal Tax Administration in order to pay the tax. If the athlete fails to fulfill these obligations, please be advised that the Swiss social insurance authorities may enroll them automatically.
